Victims' Rights & Trauma-Informed Representation

This presentation delineates the rights of victims of domestic violence in criminal court.  Attorneys will learn strategies designed to successfully represent victims and the principles of trauma-informed representation giving clients greater access to justice.  This is an ideal presentation for victim's rights attorneys, family law attorneys, criminal defense attorneys, prosecutors, and any attorney who represents clients experiencing trauma.

Presentation by: Carolyn Kim

Carolyn Kim is the Managing Attorney at Justice At Last, a non-profit law firm that specializes in legal advocacy for survivors of all forms of human trafficking located in the Greater Bay Area of Northern California. Before joining Justice At Last, Carolyn was the senior attorney and program manager of the Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking national training and technical assistance program providing comprehensive support to services providers working with trafficking survivors. Before joining CAST, Carolyn was a staff attorney at Bay Area Legal Aid located in Richmond, CA where she represented survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in their immigration and family law matters. Carolyn also worked as a family law attorney at Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach in Oakland, CA prior to joining Bay Area Legal Aid. Carolyn graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law and the University of California, Berkeley.
